It all started with Pavel Durov, a man who has already become famous as the creator of the social network VKontakte. But by 2013, he faced pressure, the authorities demanded to transfer user data or block opposition communities. Pavel refused, sold his stake in the company and left Russia. At that moment, he realized that the world needs a messenger where there will be no censorship and surveillance. That's how the idea of Telegram was born. Pavel connected his brother Nikolai, a brilliant programmer who came up with the unique MTProto encryption protocol, to the development. Together, they dreamed not just of chatting, but of a space where people could communicate without fear. "If we have the technology to protect someone's rights, we have to do it," Pavel said.

The beginning of Telegram
The brothers didn't want to make another typical messenger. Their goal was to create the most secure tool possible. Nikolai has developed a double encryption system, even if hackers break into the server, they will not be able to read the correspondence. For this purpose, the messages were divided into parts and stored in different parts of the world. A special feature of Telegram is "secret chats" with self—destruct - this feature immediately attracted those who value privacy. The messenger also worked on any device, and messages were synchronized between a smartphone, tablet, and computer. It was called "cloud chats" — everything you write is saved not on your device, but in an encrypted cloud.Launching Telegram
The first version of Telegram was released in 2013. No advertising, just word of mouth. People told friends, "There are no ads here, you won't be hacked, and even the authorities can't track your correspondence." In the first week, the messenger was downloaded by 100,000 people. The growth was explosive, and a year later the audience exceeded 10 million. Telegram was especially loved by journalists, activists, and IT specialists. In countries where freedom of speech is under threat, the messenger has become a window to the world. For example, in Iran it was used to organize protests, and in Russia it was used to circumvent blockages. Pavel and Nikolay basically did not cooperate with the authorities, even when they demanded access to the data. "We will not participate in political games," they said.Tg's Chips
Telegram has quickly become more than just a messenger. There are public channels where you can share news with an unlimited audience. For example, the channel "Eavesdropped" has gained millions of subscribers in a couple of months. And stickers are not just pictures, but whole sets that users create themselves. But the main thing is openness. The Durovs allowed enthusiasts to develop their own applications based on the Cart. This is how unofficial clients appeared with additional features, such as interface changes or automatic responses.
